Overview

This document provides detailed steps for setting up a Dell Wyse 3040 // 5070 thin client with Alpine Linux for our node system. The process includes configuring the BIOS for USB boot, installing Alpine Linux, configuring sudo, and installing essential tools like htop and speedtest-cli.

Step 1: Create a Bootable USB Drive

  1. Download the standard x86_64 version of the Alpine Linux ISO from the official website.
  2. Use a tool like Rufus (Windows) or Etcher (Windows/macOS/Linux) to create a bootable USB drive.

Step 2: Prepare for Installation

2.1. Enable USB Boot in BIOS

  1. Power on the Dell Wyse and press the Del or F2 key to enter the BIOS setup.
  2. If prompted for a BIOS password, retrieve it from BIOS-PW.org using the code displayed on your machine.
  3. Navigate to the System Configuration menu.
  4. Select USB Configuration.
  5. Enable USB Boot Support:
