Overview
This document provides detailed steps for setting up a Dell Wyse 3040 // 5070 thin client with Alpine Linux for our node system. The process includes configuring the BIOS for USB boot, installing Alpine Linux, configuring sudo, and installing essential tools like htop and speedtest-cli.
Step 1: Create a Bootable USB Drive
- Download the standard x86_64 version of the Alpine Linux ISO from the official website.
- Use a tool like Rufus (Windows) or Etcher (Windows/macOS/Linux) to create a bootable USB drive.
Step 2: Prepare for Installation
2.1. Enable USB Boot in BIOS
- Power on the Dell Wyse and press the Del or F2 key to enter the BIOS setup.
- If prompted for a BIOS password, retrieve it from BIOS-PW.org using the code displayed on your machine.
- Navigate to the System Configuration menu.
- Select USB Configuration.
- Enable USB Boot Support:
- Ensure that the USB boot option is enabled.
- Disable Secure Boot:
- Navigate to the Security or Boot section.
- Disable the Secure Boot option.
- Save the changes and exit the BIOS.
- Reboot the system.
2.2. Set Boot Order
- Re-enter the BIOS setup by pressing the Del or F2 key during boot.
- Navigate to the Boot menu.
- Change Boot Order:
- Set the USB drive as the first boot device in the boot order list.
